Art Tour Moscow

Hans Knoll invites you to a unique art tour of Moscow.

The Russian art scene is at an incredible crossroad – the exhibition space Garage, in Gorki Park, set up so swiftly by Dasha Zhukova, with an incredible prominent international program – stole crowds away from the Winzavod Exhibition Center, which had a few years’ headstart. Most older galleries closed or were converted to foundations, MMOMA (Moscow Museum of Modern Art) and its sister-institutions offer an amazing display of exhibitions. Cosmoscow replaced Art Moscow. The National Centers for Contemporary have grown remarkably since the early 90s, laying the beginnings for the (first in Russia) state-owned Museum for Contemporary Art, until their offices were closed last year, hence delaying construction. The Moscow Biennale was fading – despite this (or because of it), there were high expectations for Russian Triennale held last year for the first time! Some of these positive changes came about due to reforms in public (state) museums, though mostly from private initiatives, leading to some promising museum openings by private foundations.

Our program includes all important and special art museums – institutions, art foundations, Moscow galleries and a few artist studios. We will meet curators, artists, collectors and other interesting champions of the Moscow Scene. We will visit the New Tretyakov Gallery, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, Winzavod and its galleries, and of course, Garage, as well as the heads of the upcoming W-A-C Museums.

If you are to visit the Kremlin and Pushkin Museum, we suggest arrival on Wednesday 2 May (or morning of Thursday 3 May), we will organise your visit to these Russian art classics on the day previous to start of our contemporary program.

The tour program, available before the trip, contains exact addresses, phone numbers and locations of the closest subway station. Tours are held mostly in English, partially in German. We move through the city with the astonishing Moscow Subway. For arrangements before the trip, we offer preparatory advice e-mails on Moscow, current art and Russian art discourses, a reading list and more.

Hotel rooms will be set aside in Kitaj Gorod, one of the nicest areas in Moscow’s center, 15 minutes away from downtown.

Participants arrange their own arrival and departure trips, affordable flights start at EUR 140.
Program price is EUR 230.
