The Gallery`s XX years

The KnollGalériaBudapest celebrates this year the 20th anniversary of successful work.

Our gallery opened it’s doors in September 1989 as the first private gallery, not only in Hungary but in the whole Eastern Block, even before the fall of the Wall and was from the beginning on active in the international art scene as well. From then on the institution has presented several Hungarian and foreign artists, realized big exhibitions, symposiums and art conferences in cooperation with institutions and museums, here and in other countries. KnollGalériaBudapest participated at numerous art fairs, organized art trips to different countries and published a book dealing with 20th century Hungarian art.

During these 20 years the KnollGalériaBudapest was an important part of the development of the Hungarian and Eastern European art scene, assisted the evolution of several artist’s careers, followed the growth of collections and supported international processes.

Now we want to celebrate the successful results of these years.

The jubilee of our 20 years gives reasons for two celebrations:

1.     with the symposium „A második nyilvánosság nyomán“ (After "The Second Public") – The development of Hungarian art in the last decades. On the 6th of October native and foreign theorists will discuss about the processes and changes in the last 20-30 years from, from the inside and outside, based on the book „The second publicity“.

2.     Honor of all customers and collectors – Everyone, who has purchased art through us from the foundation in September 1989, gets an artwork out of our „XX Editions“ for present. Artists, who exhibited in our gallery, prepare graphics, photos, originals, videos, etc. Every customer receives a portfolio with selected artworks. Reason for that: without their purchases the gallery’s and several artist’s careers could not have been possible. With these presents we want to give thank for the confidence in our work and our artists.
